On 5 June 2026, Holy Family College of Health Sciences celebrated the graduation of 133 health workers, conferring Diplomas in Nurse Midwife Technology on 98 Nurse Midwife Technicians (NMTs) and Certificates on 35 Pharmacy Assistants (PA). The ceremony was graced by His Grace, Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa, who urged the new graduates to carry out their duties with integrity, dedication, and commitment to service.

Two NMT graduates earned distinctions: Stephano Steve Kenneth and Precious Mphonde. College leadership praised the graduates for their hard work and readiness to join Malawi’s health workforce, noting the vital role these professionals will play in strengthening community care.

During the event, Archbishop Msusa officially unveiled two new classroom blocks, one of which was sponsored externally by Beit Trust. The new facilities will expand the college’s teaching capacity and support its training programmes.

In his address, Archbishop Msusa offered both encouragement and a pastoral reminder. He urged graduates to approach their professions with professionalism and a strong moral compass, stressing that patient trust depends on honesty and dependable care.

The Archbishop also expressed concern about the growing use of mobile phones during Mass. Speaking at the graduation event, he warned that taking photos and recording videos during the liturgy distracts worshippers from prayer and reflection and undermines the sanctity of the Eucharistic celebration.

“Instead of following the Mass, many are busy taking videos and pictures, which takes away the meaning of worship,” Archbishop Msusa said, adding that the Church expects full presence and reverence during Mass. His remarks echoed previous statements by Pope Francis urging Catholics to avoid phone use during liturgical celebrations so that worship remains focused on prayer rather than performance.

The Archbishop thanked Beit Trust for their support in infrastructure development. Graduates and guests were reminded of the dual responsibilities they carry; professional competence in the health sector and service rooted in ethical and communal values
