Holy Family College of Health Sciences (HFCHS) is a faith-based, private institution committed to training skilled, ethical, and compassionate healthcare professionals. Located in Malawi, we serve students from across the region who are called to serve their communities through nursing, midwifery, and allied health sciences.

Our distinctive blend of academic rigor, hands-on clinical training, and values-based formation produces graduates who are not only technically competent but also humane, ethical, and service-oriented — the kind of healthcare professionals Malawi and the wider region need most.

We partner with leading hospitals, health centers, and research institutions to ensure our students graduate ready for the realities of modern healthcare practice.

Our History

Holy Family College of Health Sciences is a non-profit making organisation run by Catholic Church of the Blantyre Arch Diocese under the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). The college was established in 1963 by the Medical Missionary of Mary Sisters. It was established with an aim of training nurses who would in turn work for Holy Family Hospital. The nurses were then called Enrolled Nurses and the first cohort of three nurses graduated in 1966 with certificates.

The college phased out training enrolled nurses in 2006 and started training Nurse Midwife Technicians (NMT) who graduate with a College Diploma. Currently, the college has two programs namely Nurse Midwife Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants. Plans are underway to introduce new programs such as Community Midwifery Assistants, Certificate in Clinical Medicine and probably upgrade the Diploma in NMT to Degree in Nursing and Midwifery.
